About this Design

This design features a black and white illustration of a seated frog with a content expression. Beside the frog, there's a tray holding a teacup and a small pastry or snack, evoking a whimsical, cozy tea-time scene. This hand-carved block print of a frog is based off a woodblock print from the Edo era in Japan. Teisai Hokuba created the original, much larger woodblock depicting animals at a party. I isolated a small portion of the image showing just the frog and what looks to be a sake bottle and recreated it as a block carving which I then printed before scanning.
