About this Design

The image is a white illustration on a black background of an ancient-style hammer known as Mjölnir, Thor's hammer from Norse mythology. The handle is short and broad, topped with a round knob. Below the knob, the hammerhead is decorated with intricate interwoven knots, reflecting traditional Nordic artistic styles. The lines are bold, giving it an engraved appearance.

The imagery of this design comes from an archaeological find of Mjolnir. Mjolnir-- or Mjölnir-- is the hammer of the god Thor in Norse mythology. Thor was a very popular god and hundreds of hammers representing Mjolnir have been discovered. I based my digital block print on one such find.
