H.D. Thoreau temporarily lived in a cabin in a woods because he "wished to live deliberately." While there, he used a rock as a paperweight but got tired of dusting it, so he threw it out of the window to "simplify" his life. Were he alive today, I suspect the first thing he'd toss would be his cell phone (he probably wouldn't even bother to open the window first). Thoreau was a hypocrite in many ways, but if we attempted a return to nature as he did, perhaps we'd do a better job preserving it.
