Once upon a time, this was normal. The phone rang. You had no idea who was calling. No name on a screen. No text beforehand. No warning. Just a loud mechanical ring echoing through the house like something terrible had happened. You could ignore it, but everyone knew you were home. Then somebody picked up. A pause. A look in your direction. And the four words you absolutely did not want to hear: IT'S FOR YOU. That was it. No escape. No pretending you missed the call. No quick Google search to find out who the number belonged to. Just a receiver being pushed into your hand while some unknown person waited on the other end. Telephonophobia is for anyone who remembers that small analog nightmare, or still feels a tiny jolt of panic whenever the phone starts ringing. The technology changed. The horror survived.
